8 Teams That Real Madrid Has Never Defeated!
Real Madrid failed to defeat Arsenal once again, but apart from the Gunners, seven other teams have also never lost to Real in their history.
According to reports, Real Madrid failed to defeat Arsenal in the Champions League 15 years ago, losing in the first leg and drawing in the second leg, leading to their elimination. This year, history repeated itself as Mikel Arteta’s team handed Real two consecutive defeats, advancing to the Champions League semifinals.
In fact, Arsenal is one of the teams Real Madrid has never beaten in four encounters, with three losses and one draw, making them one of the unbeaten teams against the Whites.
Here’s a list of these teams:
Arsenal
Real Madrid has failed in four encounters with Arsenal. In the 2006 Champions League knockout stage, a goal from Thierry Henry gave Arsenal the victory, and the return leg ended in a draw. In the recent quarterfinals, Arsenal won 3-0 in London and 2-1 in Madrid.
Boca Juniors
The Argentine team faced Real Madrid only once in an official match. In the 2000 Intercontinental Cup final, Boca defeated Vicente del Bosque’s team 2-1 (with a double from Martín Palermo and a goal from Roberto Carlos). Juan Román Riquelme had a brilliant performance in that match.
Corinthians
The Brazilian team faced Real Madrid in the 2000 Club World Cup. In the group stage, the match ended in a 2-2 draw, which helped Corinthians advance to the final against Vasco da Gama.
Necaxa
The Mexican team Necaxa also faced Real Madrid in the 2000 Club World Cup. In the third-place match, after a 1-1 draw in regular and extra time, Necaxa defeated Real on penalties.
Aberdeen
The Scottish team, then managed by a young Alex Ferguson, defeated Real Madrid 2-1 in extra time in the 1983 European Cup Winners’ Cup final. These two teams have never faced each other again since then.
Ipswich Town
The English team, now in the Premier League, faced Real twice in the 1973-74 UEFA Cup and remained unbeaten. In the first leg in England, Ipswich won 1-0, and in the return leg at Real’s home, the match ended in a 0-0 draw, leaving Miguel Muñoz’s team frustrated.
Lille
Lille is the latest team to join this list. In the current Champions League season, Lille defeated Carlo Ancelotti’s team 1-0 at home with a penalty goal from Jonathan David.
Toledo
The small Spanish club made headlines in 2000 by eliminating Real Madrid from the Copa del Rey. Toledo defeated Real 2-1 in the second round of the competition at the Salto del Caballo stadium.
