Al Sadd Clinches 18th Qatar Stars League Title
Al Sadd, under the guidance of Felix Sanchez, secured their 18th Qatar Stars League title in dominant fashion.
In the final and highly decisive match of the 2024-25 Qatar Stars League season, Al Sadd secured their 18th title with a resounding 5-0 victory over Al Ahli.
Both Al Sadd and Al Duhail had a chance to claim the title on the final matchday. However, Felix Sanchez’s squad only needed a draw to defend their championship. They went beyond expectations, defeating city rivals Al Ahli 5-0 in the Doha derby, securing back-to-back league titles.
Akram Afif opened the scoring for Al Sadd with a 13th-minute penalty, followed by goals from Mustafa Meshaal (44′) and Paulo Otávio (45+2′), giving them a 3-0 lead by halftime.
In the second half, Al Sadd continued their attacking display, with Rafa Mújica scoring the fourth goal (67′) and Claudinho sealing the 5-0 win (81′), marking their 18th league title in grand style.
Meanwhile, Al Duhail secured a 1-0 away win against Al Khor, finishing as runners-up.
Final Standings: Al Sadd (52 points) claimed the title, Al Duhail (50 points) finished second, and Al Gharafa (41 points) secured third place and the remaining Asian qualification spot. Al Khor (13 points) were relegated, while Umm Salal, former club of Patrice Carteron, will compete in the relegation playoff after finishing 11th.
Roger Guedes of Al Rayyan finished as the league’s top scorer with 21 goals, while Al Sadd’s Akram Afif claimed the Best Playmaker award with 14 assists. This marks Al Sadd’s 18th Qatar Stars League title, making them the most successful club in the competition’s history with a 10-title lead over Al Duhail.
