Al Sadd is on the verge of securing another title in the Qatar Stars League.

Al Sadd One Step Away from Another Qatari League Title

Al Sadd is just one step away from retaining the Qatar Stars League title for the second consecutive season and the fourth time in the last five seasons. However, a negative goal-scoring statistic accompanies the team on the verge of this major achievement.

Al Sadd currently leads the Qatar League with 49 points, just two points ahead of second-placed Al Duhail. Therefore, a victory in the final matchday could secure the title for Al Sadd, despite a less-than-promising start earlier in the season.

Al Sadd will host Al Ahli on Friday in the 22nd and final matchday of the Qatar Stars League. Al Ahli, a tough opponent currently in fourth place with 35 points, will undoubtedly not be an easy challenge for Akram Afif and his teammates.

If Al Sadd defeats Al Ahli, they will clinch the 2024-2025 league title regardless of the result in the simultaneous match between Al Duhail and Al Khor.

    Al Sadd vs Al Ahli

Al Sadd has scored 57 goals in 21 matches this season, averaging just over 2.7 goals per game. This is a relatively low figure compared to the team’s impressive attacking record over the past decade.

Given these statistics, it appears Al Sadd will finish this season with its fourth-lowest goal-scoring average in the last decade. Even if they manage to score eight goals against Al Ahli—which seems nearly impossible given Al Ahli’s defensive strength—it would still not significantly improve this record.

The 2018-2019 season was Al Sadd’s most prolific in the last decade, with 100 goals in 22 matches, securing the title. In the 2020-2021 season, they scored 77 goals to win the league. They also scored the same number in the 2016-2017 season but lost the title to Al Duhail.

In the 2021-2022 season, Al Sadd won with 73 goals, while in 2017-2018, they scored 68 goals but failed to win the title. The 2023-2024 season saw them finish at the top with 65 goals.

    Al Sadd's goal-scoring stats

In the past decade, only three seasons saw Al Sadd with a lower goal-scoring average than this season:
    • 2015-2016: 54 goals (Al Rayyan won the title that season)
    • 2019-2020: 51 goals
    • The worst attacking season for Al Sadd was 2022-2023, where they scored only 46 goals and finished third. Even Al Duhail, the champions that season, scored only 50 goals—a sign of an overall decline in attacking performance that season.
