Football in Italy Comes to a Halt
All Serie A Matches Postponed Following the Death of the Pope
Grief over the loss of the Pope has led to the postponement of today’s Serie A matches and all lower league games. The rescheduled dates for the postponed matches have yet to be announced.
According to “Varzesh3,” following the death of Pope Francis, all football activities in Italy have been suspended. Four scheduled Serie A matches—Torino vs. Udinese, Cagliari vs. Fiorentina, Genoa vs. Lazio, and Parma vs. Juventus—along with three youth league matches (Roma vs. Udinese, Monza vs. Sassuolo, and Sampdoria vs. Torino) and all lower-league fixtures have been postponed.
Serie A Statement: “Following the passing of the Pope, Serie A announces that all matches scheduled for today have been postponed, and the rescheduled dates will be announced later.”
Other Leagues: After the death of Pope Francis, the Italian Football Federation, in coordination with various departments, decided to suspend all football activities today, from Serie A to amateur leagues across Italy.
