Newcastle Shoots 6 Times, Bayındır Concedes 4 Goals
Onana’s Replacement Performs Even Worse! (Photo)
In Manchester United’s 4-1 defeat against Newcastle, Altay Bayındır, who was supposed to replace André Onana in goal, conceded four goals, with one being largely his fault.
Altay Bayındır finally got the chance to guard Manchester United’s goal in a Premier League match after a long wait. However, tonight at St. James’ Park turned into a complete nightmare for him. Conceding four goals, especially one that was directly his fault, led to heavy criticism, much like Onana faced.
After United’s 2-2 draw against Lyon, criticism of Onana intensified so much that manager Rúben Amorim benched him and informed Bayındır that he would start against Newcastle.
Few expected Bayındır’s performance to be this poor. He conceded four goals from the six shots Newcastle players fired at his goal. The 26-year-old Turkish goalkeeper was making his Premier League debut and performed so badly that United fans said they would rather have Onana back.
The peak of criticism came after Newcastle’s fourth goal. After Mazraoui’s mistake led to the third goal, it was Bayındır’s turn to make a fatal error. The Turkish goalkeeper, who received a backpass from Diogo Dalot, sent the ball straight to Joelinton, who chested it down and passed it to Guimarães. The Brazilian then scored with a precise shot past Bayındır.
Manchester United fans on social media are using the harshest words to criticize the Turkish goalkeeper. Fans have called him a disgrace and claim he is even worse than Onana. Most agree that signing two or three new goalkeepers should be the club’s top priority this summer.
