Onana Dropped from Manchester United Squad
Andre Onana was not included in Manchester United’s squad for today’s Premier League match against Newcastle.
According to reports, the Cameroonian goalkeeper did not travel with the team to Newcastle but will return for the Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon on Thursday.
The source stated that manager Ricardo Sá Pinto, who held Onana responsible for conceding two goals in the 2-2 draw against Lyon in France, advised him to use this break to mentally recharge.
The goalkeeper is also dealing with a personal issue after his wife, Melanie Kamayou, was violently assaulted in Manchester in late March.
The report on Friday indicated that Onana was worried about being dropped from the match after his performance in France. It is worth noting that Onana previously had a heated argument with former Benfica player Nemanja Matic, who called him one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United’s history.
Altay Bayındır will start in goal today. Since joining from Fenerbahçe in September 2023, he has played seven times for United and won a trophy but has yet to make his Premier League debut.
