Antonio Rudiger to Use Suspension for Surgery!
Antonio Rudiger plans to use his suspension due to the controversy surrounding the Copa del Rey final to undergo knee surgery.
According to reports, Antonio Rudiger faces a heavy suspension. Based on referee Ricardo de Burgos’ report from the Copa del Rey final, the defender risks a lengthy ban. The incident, as seen on TV, was described by the Basque referee as follows: “In the 120th minute, Antonio Rudiger was sent off for throwing an object from the technical area (bench). After receiving the red card, he displayed aggressive behavior and had to be restrained by several members of the coaching staff.”
The wording of the referee’s report includes all elements that could lead to a severe suspension for the Real Madrid defender—a ban ranging between four to twelve matches, as stipulated for such violations. This means his potential suspension will not only apply to Copa del Rey matches but also the remaining five weeks of La Liga.
Hours after the match, once tensions had cooled, Rudiger realized his behavior at La Cartuja Stadium was inappropriate. The defender apologized on social media, writing: “There is certainly no excuse for my behavior last night. I am truly sorry. We played very well in the second half. After 111 minutes, I could no longer help my team, and before the final whistle, I made a mistake. I apologize once again to the referee and everyone I disappointed last night.”
Given the likelihood of a heavy suspension, Rudiger intends to make a major decision. He could not finish the final due to a knee injury. This was not a new issue and had worsened over the season. He had consistently tried to play through the pain, but the persistent strain further damaged his meniscus. In the final, severe pain forced him off the pitch, clearly unable to endure it any longer.
Now, he awaits medical tests to assess his injured knee. It is worth noting that Rudiger has previously suffered serious injuries in both knees. Under these circumstances, the likelihood of surgery after the season has significantly increased. With the UEFA Nations League final and the Club World Cup ahead, Rudiger’s priority is full recovery and preparation for the next season. He will likely miss the final weeks of La Liga and plans to undergo surgery during this period to resolve the issue.
