Arsenal's Joy: This Referee is a Lucky Charm!

Arsenal is set to face the early French league champions tonight at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, aiming for their first final appearance since 2006—a final they lost 1-0 to Barcelona.

Interestingly, the North London side might face the same opponent in this year’s Munich final as they did 19 years ago, as Barcelona will take on Inter Milan in the other semi-final.

While Arsenal has struggled domestically this season, they have excelled in Europe, suffering only one defeat. They advanced to face PSG after a dominant 5-1 aggregate win over Real Madrid.

    Slavko Vincic refereeing

Arsenal had already defeated PSG 2-0 at the Emirates in the group stage earlier this season. Now, there’s more good news for their superstitious fans: referee Slavko Vincic, who officiated that match, will also oversee Tuesday night’s clash.

Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz scored Arsenal’s goals in that October match, securing a crucial win. Vincic had little to do that night, issuing only two yellow cards—one to Riccardo Calafiori and another to Fabián Ruiz.

Last season, Vincic also refereed the UEFA Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, as well as PSG’s 3-0 victory over AC Milan.
