Aston Villa Greenlights Sale of Emiliano Martinez
Lucrative Saudi Offer for the World’s Best Goalkeeper
Emiliano Martinez has received a massive offer from Saudi Arabia, and Aston Villa is willing to sell him.
According to reports from the English newspaper The Telegraph, a significant offer has been made to Aston Villa for Emiliano Martinez. A Saudi club has submitted a lucrative proposal to sign the Argentine goalkeeper, and Aston Villa is reportedly open to selling him.
The Telegraph did not name the Saudi club but stated that Aston Villa, having profited significantly from the sales of Moussa Diaby and John Duran to Saudi clubs, now intends to sell Martinez for a substantial fee and reinvest the funds in strengthening the squad this summer.
Despite Martinez failing to meet expectations this season and experts noting a decline in his performance compared to previous years—along with his age (32)—Saudi clubs believe he remains the most famous goalkeeper in the world and could be an exceptional signing.
Emiliano Martinez won the Yashin Award two years in a row. Since Argentina’s 2022 World Cup victory in Qatar, he has gained immense popularity in Saudi Arabia.
Aston Villa sold Moussa Diaby to Al-Ittihad last summer and John Duran to Al-Nassr in January. The Telegraph reports that whether Aston Villa secures a Champions League spot or not, they plan to sign several players targeted by Unai Emery this summer. To raise the necessary funds, they must sell several players. Offloading Martinez for a significant fee would give Aston Villa’s management flexibility in the transfer market.
