According to reports, Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida bluntly stated that winning La Liga is now impossible for Atletico Madrid.

The Madrid mayor attended the opening ceremony of the Mutua Madrid Open tennis tournament on Monday. The event will take place over the next two weeks at the Caja Magica.

Almeida, who has repeatedly declared his support for Atletico, commented on the team’s situation under Diego Simeone: “La Liga is already over… not mathematically, but why deny it? It’s impossible. We shouldn’t hope for more than what we hoped for this year. Saying the title is within reach for Atletico at this stage is unrealistic.”

Almeida also spoke about Carlos Alcaraz, who was injured during the Godó tournament and missed the final: “We hope he can participate in this tournament, but his physical condition is uncertain. However, we haven’t heard any news about him withdrawing yet.”
