Barcelona’s Incredible Championship Bonus: Only 1.2 Million Euros

    Barcelona’s Incredible Championship Bonus

The money Barcelona receives as the 2025 Copa del Rey champion is equivalent to the potential bonus a player could earn if the club wins the Champions League.

    Barcelona's Incredible Championship Bonus

According to reports, the trophy Barcelona recently won, their 32nd title, is one of the competitions that fills their showcase, but teams hardly earn any income from it. The financial distribution system of this tournament is complex and not very significant. In short: Barcelona adds €1,200,000 to its treasury with the championship, while Real Madrid, as the runner-up, will receive €1,000,000.

These figures seem negligible compared to the prize for the Club World Cup winner, which will be held next summer in the United States. The winner of this competition will receive $125 million, equivalent to approximately €110.5 million. Considering that both Real Madrid and Barcelona are competing for the La Liga title, which carries a prize of €60 million, and Barcelona is also participating in the UEFA Champions League, which could bring them around €100 million, the difference is significant.

    Copa del Rey Prize Distribution

What is the reason for this difference? The goal of the Copa del Rey, since its format change, has been to distribute money across all of Spanish football, not just the finalists.

The distribution system works as follows: The Copa del Rey earns approximately €33 million per season from television rights. This amount is divided among different sectors. First, 90% (about €29.5 million) goes to professional football, and the remaining 10% (just over €3 million) goes to amateur football and the participating teams in the Copa del Rey.

Now, back to the €29.5 million for professional football, which concerns Barcelona and Real Madrid: 90% of this amount goes to La Liga teams (first division), and 10% goes to second-division teams. In other words, about €26.5 million remains for the 20 La Liga teams. From this amount, 50% is divided equally among the 20 teams: Barcelona, Real Madrid, and the other 18 teams had already received a guaranteed €660,000 each.
