Barcelona’s Lucky Break: Dortmund Defender’s Own Goal
Barcelona’s first goal against Dortmund was scored by Ramy Bensebaini’s own goal in the second half.
Despite Dortmund’s dream start in the second half against Barcelona, Hansi Flick’s team quickly regained control. Interestingly, the architect of Dortmund’s second goal made a mistake that left Gregor Kobel’s net open, dimming Nico Kovač’s hopes of completing a fairytale comeback.
While Dortmund players started the second half as aggressively as the first half, Wojciech Szczęsny’s double save in the 46th minute prevented Kovač’s team from scoring. However, just a minute later, Serge Gnabry, with a brilliant assist from Ramy Bensebaini, managed to score the second goal for the hosts.
The goal further electrified the already intense atmosphere at Signal Iduna Park until possession slipped away from Kovač’s players, and Barcelona reacted strongly to the early second-half goal.
Fermín López’s excellent penetration from the right flank of Dortmund’s defense, combined with a sharp cross from Barcelona’s young midfielder, led to Ramy Bensebaini’s own goal, turning the scoreline to 2-1 in Dortmund’s favor (5-2 to Barcelona on aggregate), leaving the home fans stunned.
