Uruguayan Striker Could Reach €90 Million Valuation
Benfica’s Plea to Liverpool: Fix Darwin Nunez!
Benfica hopes that one more fixed appearance for Darwin Nunez by the end of the season will increase their earnings from his sale to €90 million.
According to reports, while Darwin Nunez’s departure from Liverpool in the upcoming summer seems almost certain, Benfica has grown increasingly concerned. Nunez’s exit could result in significant financial losses for Benfica.
English media recently claimed that Arne Slot informed Liverpool’s management that Darwin Nunez is not part of his plans for next season. Nunez has undoubtedly fallen short of expectations. In 42 matches, he started only 17 times and, despite being deployed as a central striker, scored just 7 goals.
Nunez hasn’t started a single match in the last month and a half, playing only 68 minutes during this period. He scored once in Liverpool’s win against Southampton and was benched entirely in the game against Leicester. After that match, it became clear that Liverpool intends to part ways with Nunez.
When Liverpool signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica in 2022, they paid €75 million. However, his contract included performance-based bonuses, potentially increasing the total fee to €100 million.
Benfica is currently at risk of losing €10 million. According to the agreement between Benfica and Liverpool, the Portuguese club will receive €5 million once Nunez starts 10 Premier League or Champions League matches in a single season. Another €5 million will be paid if he reaches a specified goal tally.
Benfica has already earned €10 million from these performance bonuses, bringing their total earnings from Nunez’s transfer to €85 million.
Benfica is now just one game away from securing an additional €5 million. If Arne Slot starts Nunez in one of the remaining five matches this season, Benfica will receive the payment. This would bring their total earnings from Nunez’s sale to €90 million.
