Europa League Title Won't Save Manchester United's Season!

According to reports, Manchester United escaped defeat against Bournemouth thanks to a last-minute goal by Rasmus Hojlund. Now, they must prepare for a crucial Europa League semi-final clash against Atletico Bilbao.

Ahead of this critical match, Bruno Fernandes spoke to the Daily Mail about the underwhelming season of United’s attackers, including Hojlund: “It’s been a tough season for everyone, and we can’t hide from the fact that Rasmus hasn’t scored as many goals as we hoped. But the whole team isn’t scoring as they should, and the lack of goals can’t be blamed solely on him.”

“Of course, Hojlund should score more. He’s the main striker. But we midfielders—Zirkzee, me, Garnacho, Mason Mount, and Amad Diallo—also have a responsibility to contribute goals.”

“Playing for Manchester United means you’re always under scrutiny. You must be ready for it, and if you’re not, you have to prepare yourself for what happens in every game.”

“A player shouldn’t pay too much attention to outside reactions. Strikers are always under pressure, whether at Manchester United or any other club, because everyone expects them to score.”

Fernandes emphasized that Hojlund should focus on improving and understanding his teammates’ movements: “A striker must read his teammates’ movements with the ball because some players can deliver deep passes or dangerous crosses, while others are less inclined. A striker shouldn’t make the same runs for every player who has the ball.”

Manchester United is gearing up for their crucial Europa League semi-final first leg against Atletico Bilbao on Thursday night, hoping to salvage their season by securing a Champions League spot through winning the competition.

However, Fernandes admitted that winning the Europa League wouldn’t erase the disappointment of this season: “We can’t see it as a consolation. Winning the Europa League would be a big achievement, but it won’t save our season.”

“Expectations at Manchester United are always high, whether we’re in a semi-final or any other match. After Bilbao, we face Brentford, and the expectations will remain high. We must always be ready.”
