Inigo admitted he made a mistake
Celta Vigo Striker Furious: Inigo Martinez Should Have Been Sent Off
Pablo Durán, Celta Vigo striker, claims the referee played a key role in Barcelona’s victory by not sending off Inigo Martinez.
Pablo Durán, Celta Vigo striker, was furious after his team’s 4-3 defeat against Barcelona. He claimed the referee made several decisions in favor of Barcelona, which influenced the match’s outcome.
Barcelona, trailing 3-1, managed to equalize and scored the winning goal through a penalty awarded in the 98th minute by Raphinha. However, Durán’s complaint was about another incident where he was running towards the goal and nearly had a one-on-one opportunity. Durán stated that Inigo Martinez, Barcelona defender, pulled his hand and obstructed his movement, which should have resulted in a direct red card for denying a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Durán said: “Inigo Martinez was running with me when he pulled my hand and stopped me. It was a clear foul. He admitted to me that he fouled. I don’t know why the referee didn’t call it. A direct red card was absolutely necessary.”
Durán’s comments came despite him not going down after the incident. Some analysts, including Iturralde González, a refereeing expert, argued that the severity of Martinez’s action might not have warranted a foul, but had Durán fallen, the referee’s decision could have been different.
