For £35 Million
Christopher Nkunku’s Return to Germany Heading to Munich
Chelsea is ready to negotiate the sale of Christopher Nkunku with Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
According to reports, Chelsea fans had high hopes for Christopher Nkunku after his £52 million transfer from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023. The player had a successful spell at Leipzig, being named Bundesliga Player of the Season in 2021-22 and finishing as the league’s top scorer the following season.
However, the former Paris Saint-Germain forward struggled with injuries in his first season at Stamford Bridge, making only 14 appearances. While Nkunku has been injury-free this season, he has failed to replicate his outstanding Bundesliga form, scoring just three Premier League goals.
The 27-year-old has performed better in European competitions, but Chelsea fans remain unimpressed given the lower level of the Europa Conference League. In January, rumors emerged about Nkunku’s potential departure, with Bayern Munich and Manchester United reportedly interested, but he ultimately stayed in London.
However, a summer exit now seems inevitable, as Nkunku has continued to struggle for form and was left out of Chelsea’s last match entirely. Manager Enzo Maresca, who had previously defended the player, confirmed his absence against Fulham was due to “technical reasons.”
This decision has led Chelsea fans to believe Nkunku will leave in the summer, with French media reporting the club is prepared to cash in on his sale. Nkunku himself is said to be keen on a return to Germany, where he enjoyed greater success. Chelsea hopes to recoup around £35 million from his sale.
Meanwhile, The Sun reports that Nkunku is aware his time at Chelsea is over and is evaluating his options for the summer. It remains unclear whether clubs previously interested in him, including Bayern Munich and Manchester United, will renew their pursuit.
