Cody Gakpo displayed a T-shirt after scoring against Tottenham, reminiscent of the one Kaka, the Brazilian star of AC Milan, famously wore after winning the Champions League with Milan.
According to reports, Cody Gakpo scored Liverpool’s third goal in the 34th minute of the first half against Tottenham, completing a remarkable comeback after initially trailing 1-0. While the game was at 2-1 in Liverpool’s favor, the Reds won a corner. Alexis Mac Allister, who had earlier scored the second goal, delivered the corner into the box. The ball deflected off the back of Virgil van Dijk’s head, and Tottenham failed to clear it, leaving Gakpo with a clear shot. He deceived goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario with a precise finish.
Gakpo then removed his jersey to reveal a white T-shirt with the words “I Belong to Jesus” written on it.
This T-shirt immediately reminded football fans of a similar one Kaka famously displayed 18 years ago. In 2007, after scoring against Liverpool in the Champions League final, Kaka wore a T-shirt with the same phrase. Milan won that final 2-1 and lifted the Champions League trophy.
Cody Gakpo has always spoken about his religious beliefs in interviews. Today, after scoring Liverpool’s third goal, he willingly took a yellow card to display the T-shirt famously associated with Kaka, this time at Anfield.
