Criticism of Bayern Captain in Bild
Kimmich Should Also Criticize Himself!
Former Bayern Munich manager Felix Magath and football analyst Alfred Drexler criticized Joshua Kimmich, the team’s star, in an interview.
Bayern Munich’s dream of reaching the UEFA Champions League final at home was shattered in Milan against Inter.
Joshua Kimmich made blunt remarks after the 2-2 draw against Inter, which led to the German giants’ elimination in the quarter-finals. The Germany captain said: “If we look at our last seven or eight games, we’ve only won two or three. That’s clearly not enough.”
These comments were also discussed on Bild’s program on Welt TV. For Felix Magath, the issue is clear: “The problem is the team’s overall structure. The coach hasn’t found a lineup that gives the feeling of full control over weeks. Kimmich himself should also take a look at himself and talk about his own poor performance.”
Football analyst Alfred Drexler was dissatisfied with Kimmich’s critical interview, as he claimed Kimmich appeared “very lackluster” in the match against Inter.
He said bluntly: “He should also engage in self-criticism. He doesn’t just play as a captain, but in a very sensitive position. As a defensive midfielder (number six), he drives the game forward. And this is often not done well by him. Defense starts from the front. Everything is set in the number six position, and there are often problems here.”
In Bayern’s 4-0 win over Heidenheim on Saturday, Kimmich scored the team’s fourth goal and celebrated enthusiastically.
The former Bayern manager also defended Kim Min-jae, the defender who has recently faced criticism. For Magath, it’s clear: “Players like Kim are victims. Kim was Italy’s best defender two years ago. And they don’t play bad football in Italy either. So I think he has the necessary abilities. But these players haven’t gelled well together in the current team. The overall problem is this.”
