Optimism for Trophy and Qualification
Double Joy for Pep: Return of Two Key Players
Manchester City, under Pep Guardiola, is chasing two major goals in the final weeks of the season and now has a more complete squad than ever.
According to “Varzesh3,” City aims to win the FA Cup and secure a Champions League spot for next season. While Liverpool has long secured the Premier League title, City stands fifth in the table with 55 points from 32 games and must remain in the top five to qualify for the Champions League, thanks to FIFA’s ranking guaranteeing an extra spot for the Premier League.
Chelsea and Aston Villa, both with 54 points, are chasing City, and any slip-up could push Guardiola’s team into the Europa League. The remaining six games against Everton, Aston Villa, Wolverhampton, Southampton (already relegated), Bournemouth, and Fulham will be decisive before traveling to America for the Club World Cup.
City will also face Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup final at Wembley on April 27 (nine days from now), aiming for their second trophy of the season after the Community Shield.
The return of two key players, Phil Foden and Manuel Akanji, is good news for Guardiola. Foden missed the recent match against Crystal Palace (5-2 win) due to injury, and Akanji, absent since February 11 (Champions League match against Real Madrid), has missed 11 games but has now returned to training.
The prolonged absences of players like Aké, Stones, and Akanji had weakened City’s defense. Although Akanji is unlikely to start against Everton after a two-month absence, his return reduces the need for forced changes in defense. Foden is also a key option for the attack, filling the void left by Erling Haaland, who is injured with an ankle issue. These returns have given Guardiola hope for a successful end to the season.
