Emirati Representative Advances to AFC Champions League 2 Final
Sharjah FC secured their place in the AFC Champions League 2 final after a dramatic victory.
Sharjah FC secured a hard-fought and dramatic 2-0 victory over Saudi Arabia’s Al Taawoun in the second leg of the AFC Champions League 2 semifinals, advancing to the final of the competition’s second tier.
Despite losing the first leg 1-0, Sharjah managed a 2-1 aggregate victory over the two legs, securing their place in the final of the inaugural edition of this Asian competition. The goals for Sharjah were scored by Ousmane Camara and Firas Al-Buraikan in the 90+4th and 90+9th minutes.
Sharjah will now await their opponent in the final, which will be the winner of the match between Sydney FC of Australia and Lion City Sailors of Singapore, with the Singaporean team having won the first leg 2-0.
In the first half, VAR intervened to award Al Taawoun a penalty after a foul by Sharjah defender Shahin Abdulrahman on forward Roger Martínez. Ashraf Al-Mahjoubi took the penalty in the 15th minute, but Sharjah goalkeeper Adel Al-Hosani made a brilliant double save, showcasing his penalty-saving prowess once again.
Ultimately, Sharjah broke the deadlock in the 90+4th minute when Ousmane Camara scored from a rebound off a set-piece inside the box.
A few minutes later, in the 90+9th minute, substitute Firas Al-Buraikan sealed the victory with a quick counterattack, confirming Sharjah’s place in the AFC Champions League 2 final.
