Enzo Maresca: Trust Me, Chelsea Will Improve
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca believes his team is on the right track with the return of injured players and will continue to improve.
Chelsea returned to fourth place in the Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Everton in the 34th matchweek. The winning goal came from Nicolas Jackson in the 27th minute, and with Newcastle’s upcoming match, Chelsea temporarily sits in fourth.
Enzo Maresca, who watched the game from the press box due to a one-match touchline ban, analyzed the match in a post-game press conference.
Watching from the press box?
“Honestly, it was a disaster. I prefer being on the touchline. You want to say something, but no one can hear you. But we won, and we’re happy. I was in touch with the bench. One of the staff members was next to me, relaying messages.”
Chelsea’s performance?
“We completely controlled the first half. We were dominant and didn’t give the opponent any chances. The positive thing was that we were strong and resilient when needed.”
Jackson’s goal?
“We’ve said many times that we have no doubts about Nicolas Jackson, Cole Palmer, and Robert Sanchez. We need to support them more in these moments. Nico scored today. Cole also played very well today. Everything just takes time.”
Sanchez’s performance?
“You could see how his teammates celebrated with him. Everyone knows Robert hasn’t had good days, so they supported him and helped him.”
Lavia’s display?
“I spent a full season with Romeo Lavia at Manchester City. I know him very well. Like Reece James, both are top players, but we need to take care of them. Without a doubt, Chelsea is better with Reece and Romeo. When Romeo is ready, he’s one of the best midfielders. His defending is excellent, and his line-breaking passes are fantastic.”
Chalobah’s impact?
“Trevoh Chalobah has been very, very good since returning to Chelsea. He plays and helps us. When he needs to defend, he defends, and he also builds play from the back. We’re very happy with Trevoh. I know he can help us. Unfortunately, Wesley Fofana is injured, but there’s no doubt Trevoh is contributing.”
Chelsea’s balance?
“We’re getting better because the players are understanding more how to manage different games. That’s why the fans should trust us because this team will improve. This is a journey, and they’re going to learn a lot.”
Team mentality?
“I’m very happy with the team’s mentality. The second half against Fulham was excellent, and today we started with the same spirit. At this stage of the season, the result is the most important thing. Today we won, but for most of the game, whether with or without the ball, we were the dominant team.”
A big moment for Sanchez?
“Robert has had many good moments this season. In the home game against Tottenham, he made a great save in the 90th minute. People usually remember the bad things, not the good memories. He’s had very good moments with us.”
