Exciting Decision: Pep's Star Loves Barcelona!

According to reports, Bernardo Silva’s name has once again come into focus for Barcelona. The Portuguese midfielder has already decided to end his time at Manchester City by mutual agreement, as the English club plans a major squad overhaul in the upcoming summer and will allow his departure.

There is no doubt about his quality, and this could be an opportunity in the transfer market, especially since the Portuguese player is eager to join Barça—a topic that has been discussed before. Reports suggest Barcelona is aware of this, despite the difficulty of fitting him into the squad. However, the club’s sporting directors are currently evaluating the signing of a high-quality attacking midfielder instead of a winger.

Jorge Mendes, Bernardo Silva’s agent, has repeatedly informed Barcelona president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco about this possibility in recent meetings. Mendes has brought up the player’s name only if the deal benefits Barcelona, as Silva’s contract expires in 2026, and Manchester City has committed to facilitating his exit.

Barcelona has always appreciated Bernardo Silva’s technical quality, vision, and performance. The Blaugrana have tried to sign him on multiple occasions but have always backed out due to financial constraints or other positional priorities. Now, the situation is entirely different, as City is willing to sell, and the player himself wants to lower the transfer fee as much as possible.

The biggest obstacle is that Barcelona currently has a well-stocked midfield with players of Silva’s caliber. This congestion, along with his age, could derail any negotiations. However, his name remains on the club’s transfer list. Deco and Hansi Flick’s strategy is to sign young or under-30 players on reasonable contracts—Silva does not fit this profile.

Additionally, Barcelona may decide not to sign any more attacking players this summer, as they believe they have enough options upfront. Any changes will depend on whether they can register new signings and offload players. Deco is certain that retaining current players is more important than entering the transfer market.
