Ready for the Final
Flick’s Big Risk Before El Clásico
Hans-Dieter Flick’s decision to field two protesting players against Mallorca just days before the Copa del Rey final and the La Liga title race surprised everyone.
According to reports, Barcelona, with previously sidelined players like Ansu Fati and Hector Fort, delivered a strong performance against Mallorca, securing three valuable points that extended their lead over Real Madrid to seven points. Flick chose to let Fati and Fort prove themselves on the pitch rather than protest from the bench, and the gamble paid off. Fati had an outstanding game, while Fort also put in a solid shift.
However, Pedri, Lamine Yamal, and Dani Olmo were the ones who made the difference. A significant gap between the two teams miraculously did not turn into a high-scoring victory in the first half.
Despite this, the greatness of football was such that Barcelona’s first goal came early in the second half. Dani Olmo, the scorer, showed he is fully ready for the big Copa del Rey final.
The team continued with the same discipline and focus but created fewer chances compared to the first half. Yamal had a one-on-one opportunity but failed to beat the goalkeeper, causing unnecessary tension in the final ten minutes. However, the important thing was the victory, and that goal was achieved.
Two final points: First, all players traveling to Sevilla, except the goalkeeper, have featured in the last three games under Flick’s rotation system—a very positive sign. This means all players, except the injured Lewandowski, will be in peak physical condition. Second, Flick took a risk with disgruntled players, and it paid off, showing team unity and a positive dressing room atmosphere.
In other words, everything is set for the big Copa del Rey final. Now, the question is whether Real Madrid can secure three points in the tough fixture against Getafe. Flick and his players will watch this game comfortably from their homes.
