Frenkie de Jong: My Contract Extension Will Come in Time
Frenkie de Jong, the Dutch midfielder for Barcelona, is currently focused on the final stages of the current season and is reluctant to discuss his future.
According to reports, de Jong, who has returned to peak form under Hansi Flick after recovering from recent injuries, is now in his best shape. However, his future, with his contract expiring in 2026, has been a subject of speculation for months.
After Barcelona’s match against Dortmund, de Jong responded to a question about his contract extension with a simple statement: “There is time for everything.” However, he emphasized that he is very happy playing and living in Barcelona.
De Jong said: “I enjoy playing and living in Barcelona.” But for now, he prefers to focus entirely on the final weeks of the season, where Barcelona still has a chance to win all three titles.
Barcelona began negotiations to extend the Dutch midfielder’s contract over a year ago, but no agreement has been reached yet. During this time, the club has renewed contracts for players like Iñigo Martínez, Pedri, and Gavi, but de Jong’s situation remains uncertain.
However, de Jong’s situation has changed significantly compared to a few months ago. Last season, recurring ankle injuries prevented him from even participating in the European Championship. But this season, after recovering from his latest injury, he has improved day by day and has become one of Hansi Flick’s key players.
