According to reports, FIFA President Gianni Infantino attended the funeral ceremony of Pope Francis this morning and announced plans for a major memorial match featuring football legends.

Infantino told Sky Sports about his last meeting with Pope Francis: “In our last meeting, about two months ago, we discussed organizing a match for children featuring football legends to combine his passion for football with fostering unity among youth.”

“We considered holding this match in September, and now we will certainly proceed with it in his memory, inviting the greatest football legends. The relationship between Pope Francis and football was special—he was a huge football fan.”

Infantino added: “Sports, especially football, teach life lessons. You learn how to coexist with others, respect rules, win, and lose. Even after a defeat, you know another game is coming, so you learn to bounce back.”
