Graeme Souness:
Ronaldo left because United was lying!
Graeme Souness, former Liverpool star, strongly criticized Manchester United’s management for their treatment of Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to “Varzesh3,” Ronaldo left Manchester United in November 2022 after an explosive interview with Piers Morgan, where he heavily criticized the club and then-manager Erik ten Hag. His contract was terminated, ending his second spell at Old Trafford after just one year.
While Ronaldo signed a lucrative deal with Al Nassr and has since scored 32 goals in 36 matches this season, Manchester United, after sacking Ten Hag and appointing Rúben Amorim, has slumped to 14th place in the Premier League. According to Souness, Ronaldo’s departure was likely due to his disappointment with the club’s declining standards since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement and the lack of real leaders in the squad.
He told Mirror: “Ronaldo was disappointed with what he saw upon returning to the club. He questioned whether others truly cared about their profession. Over the past 10 years since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, United has lacked experienced players who could elevate the team. They had the best player in the world, and I think he left because he was promised certain signings that never materialized.
I’m talking about one of the greatest players to ever kick a ball. It was a huge mistake for United’s decision-makers not to listen to him. I think Cristiano’s pride made him believe someone at the top of the club would pay attention to his words. But no one did, and now, more than two years later, United has made no progress.”
