Chance for a Treble: Barcelona Gets Lucky

It seems Barcelona’s victory against Leganes came with a lot of luck for the team.

Chance for a Treble: Barcelona Gets Lucky

According to reports, Barcelona could be just 12 games away from securing a historic treble in their flawless 2025 season. Their recent victory against Leganes was accompanied by a great deal of luck. Their last defeat was on Sorloth’s goal in extra time last year, and since then, they have remained unbeaten in 24 matches.

They are seven points ahead of Real Madrid in La Liga (Real’s result against Alavés is still pending). In the Champions League, after a 4-0 away win against Dortmund, they are likely to reach the semi-finals. In the Copa del Rey final, they will face Real Madrid, whom they have defeated in all encounters this season. Everything seems to be going well for Flick’s team, but it is clear that the rest of the season will be the toughest part.

The German coach made almost no rotation in the lineup, once again emphasizing the importance he places on winning La Liga—something he has always stressed. Leganes surprised Barcelona in the first leg (1-0) and nearly repeated it last night, coming close to scoring early on. Dani Raba made an excellent move on the right flank, speeding past Iñigo Martínez and delivering a deadly pass to Altimira, but Ter Stegen made a brilliant save.

    Barcelona vs Leganes

Leganes controlled Barcelona well in the early minutes. Barcelona’s first real chance came in the 22nd minute, but it was almost their only good opportunity, along with a shot from Lamine Yamal that hit the side netting.

The bad news of the first half was undoubtedly the muscular injury to Balde, forcing him off the pitch, with Gerard Martín replacing him. A shot from Raba that narrowly missed completed the trio of dangerous chances in the first half.

As expected, Flick was not satisfied with his team’s performance in the first half and sent De Jong on for Araújo at the start of the second half, moving Eric back to central defense. Early in the second half, Barcelona experienced what is often called “champion’s luck,” taking the lead with an own goal from Leganes.

Leganes pushed forward, which usually doesn’t work against Barcelona. Fermín could have scored the best goal of his career minutes later, but his final shot went wide. As the minutes passed, Leganes took control and exploited Barcelona’s retreat. In the last 15 minutes, Munir and Diego García came on. The latter almost equalized with his first touch after a good pass from Juan Cruz. Leganes couldn’t have been more aggressive.

The last chance for the home team fell to Munir. He found himself one-on-one with Ter Stegen, but Iñigo Martínez made an excellent defensive tackle to block his shot. Despite their efforts, Leganes couldn’t score in a match they thoroughly deserved. However, champion’s luck also plays a role in these competitions, and this time it favored a Barcelona side that plays humanely and sometimes delivers weak performances like this one.
