Major Slip-Up in Crucial Stage of the Season
Inter 0-1 Roma: Inzaghi Hands Serie A Title to Conte
Inter Milan suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Roma in the 34th round of Serie A, allowing Napoli to move closer to the title.
Inter Milan hosted Roma at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium today, standing level on points with Napoli in second place, hoping to stay close to Conte’s team with a win. However, Simone Inzaghi’s side conceded a first-half goal from Solé and lost 1-0. If Napoli wins their upcoming match, they will take a three-point lead over Inter at the top.
This defeat was particularly painful for Inter as they face Barcelona in the Champions League this Wednesday. Barcelona, fresh from defeating Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final, will enter the match with high morale.
Just six minutes into the game, Inter thought they had opened the scoring, but their celebrations were short-lived. Marko Arnautović, who replaced Mehdi Taremi in the lineup, attempted to escape an offside trap. His pass back to Frattesi was converted into a goal, but it was correctly ruled out for offside.
Five minutes later, disaster struck for Inter as Benjamin Pavard, a key defender for Inzaghi, suffered an injury and had to be substituted. Pavard appeared to have twisted his left ankle and was replaced by Yann Bisseck.
In the 22nd minute, hesitation in Inter’s defense allowed Solé to score the opening goal for Roma. The Argentine forward has been one of Roma’s standout performers recently and delivered a crucial strike today.
Roma nearly doubled their lead minutes later when a defensive error allowed Shomurodov a clear chance, but he inexplicably blasted the ball over the bar.
The first half ended with Roma outperforming Inter despite playing at the Meazza. They registered three shots on target and scored once, while Inter managed only one. Roma also created more dangerous opportunities, leaving Inter fans worried ahead of their midweek clash against Barcelona.
Inter started the second half stronger, dominating the first 15 minutes but failing to convert chances. Inzaghi made tactical changes, bringing on Denzel Dumfries for Darmian and Zalevski for Di Marco, but Inter struggled to break Roma’s defense.
The match continued with Inter controlling possession but lacking cutting edge. Inzaghi made further changes, introducing Zielinski for Barella and Joaquín Correa for Frattesi, but Roma held firm.
The game ended 1-0 in Roma’s favor, leaving Inter hoping Napoli drops points. This victory was crucial for Roma, moving them to fifth place with 60 points and boosting their Champions League qualification hopes.
Goal Summary:
Inter 0-1 Roma: Roma’s attack started with Solé, who set up Paredes. After a scramble in the box, the ball fell to Solé, who calmly slotted past Sommer despite using his weaker foot.
