In the Derby della Madonnina between AC Milan and Inter Milan, players from both teams stood together with clasped hands around the center circle before kickoff. Similar scenes were witnessed across Italy. Before Juventus’ match against Parma, an image of Pope Francis was displayed behind the stands. In the Genoa vs. Lazio match, a heavy silence filled the stadium, and a similar atmosphere prevailed before Cagliari faced Fiorentina in Sardinia.

The funeral of Pope Francis will be held on Saturday in St. Peter’s Square.
