Great News for Inzaghi
Inter Star Ready for Bayern Clash
Federico Di Marco is set to return to Inter Milan’s starting lineup for their UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Bayern Munich.
Reports from Italy suggest that Di Marco will feature in Inter’s starting lineup for the crucial Champions League clash against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
The Italian international has been a key player under Simone Inzaghi in recent seasons but suffered a hamstring injury in March that kept him sidelined for several weeks. This injury also ruled him out of Italy’s Nations League quarter-final against Germany.
Although Di Marco has started Inter’s last three Serie A matches since returning from international duty, he was substituted around the 60th minute in each game. He was not deemed fit enough to start in the first leg against Bayern or in the Coppa Italia semi-final first leg against AC Milan in early April. Carlos Augusto replaced him at left wing-back in both matches.
However, Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the 27-year-old is expected to start in the second leg against Bayern at San Siro on Wednesday.
The newspaper claims that Inzaghi will still need to manage Di Marco’s minutes carefully, meaning he could be substituted midway through the second half as in recent Serie A matches. If this happens, Carlos Augusto would once again be his replacement.
Inter currently lead the tie 2-1 after goals from Lautaro Martinez and Davide Frattesi in the first leg in Munich.
