The Treble Dream is Alive
Inter Wins the Derby, Barcelona Can’t Stop Them!
Luis Figo, former Inter star, spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport about the Coppa Italia return leg derby and Inter’s upcoming matches.
According to “Varzesh3,” Inter must face their city rivals tonight to reach the Coppa Italia final and keep their treble dream alive. The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw, and despite Inter’s recent loss to Bologna in Serie A, they are not in the best mental state heading into the derby, although Milan also lost to Atalanta this week.
Figo, who played for Inter for several seasons, commented on tonight’s match: “If Inter plays like they did against Bayern in the Champions League, they shouldn’t have much trouble winning. But derbies are always tough, regardless of the teams’ standings. I’m an Inter fan, and I believe they are the favorites to reach the final. Inter’s level is higher than Milan’s, and under normal circumstances, they will be the winning team.”
He also discussed the UEFA Champions League semi-final between Barcelona and Inter: “These two teams play with different styles, but describing this match solely with stats like the best attack vs. the best defense is overly simplistic. Inter is not just a team that defends well; anyone who thinks so is completely wrong. They are fully capable of defeating Barcelona.”
Figo concluded: “Inzaghi’s team is fighting for the treble, and the first step toward this goal will be taken tonight in the Coppa Italia derby against Milan. Inter is playing at a high level. This team has an Italian mentality that makes them defend carefully, which is why they’ve conceded very few goals in the Champions League. But they also have many attacking players who can make a difference.”
The Portuguese star then mentioned Inter’s chances of success in all competitions: “Yes, Inter can win the treble, and that would be very exciting for me, as someone who was part of Inter’s history, and for the club. I will always be an Inter fan and have incredible memories from my years in Milan; we achieved great victories. Of course, to win the Champions League, Serie A, and Coppa Italia, they must overcome big obstacles like Barcelona, Napoli, who have been thinking only about the league title since August, and Milan in the Coppa Italia.”
