Inzaghi: Inter’s Path to Victory Doesn’t End Here
Simone Inzaghi, Inter Milan’s head coach, says despite the loss against Bologna, the team’s chances of winning the title are not lost, and their path to glory continues.
According to reports, Simone Inzaghi spoke frankly to reporters after his team’s 1-0 defeat in the 33rd week of Serie A against Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara. The match, which started at 19:45 tonight, ended with a last-minute goal by Riccardo Orsolini, keeping Inter at the top of the table, level with second-placed Napoli.
Despite disappointment with the result, Inzaghi remained hopeful about his team’s performance and emphasized that the path to the title is still open.
Inzaghi responded to Bologna players’ claims that Inter’s fatigue from the Champions League caused the loss: “I think it was a balanced game, and the goalkeepers were less involved. We played cohesively and with great sacrifice. In the second half, we could have created better chances, but the final moment went against us. However, we shouldn’t think this defeat changes our path.”
When asked about his dissatisfaction with the performance or result, he added: “I’m satisfied with the performance because I thought we could have been more troubled against a team like Bologna. I’m unhappy with the result, but Bologna is a valuable team.”
When Inzaghi was asked about the importance of home games against AC Milan and Roma, he thanked the fans: “Yes, and I want to thank the many fans who supported us today.”
He explained the mistake leading to the goal and Yann Bisseck’s role: “The throw-in that led to the goal shouldn’t have happened because the previous throw-in was too far forward, and the players got nervous. But Bisseck wasn’t the only one at fault for the goal—all the players made mistakes. We should have defended that ball better.”
Inzaghi also spoke about the absence of Dumfries and Thuram: “Their absence was certainly felt, but we’re used to this situation because we haven’t had a full squad for a while. Tonight, we need to analyze the defeat and set aside the frustration. The team is very disappointed and angry, so we’ll do that later, but our path to the title doesn’t end here.”
