According to reports, the experienced striker described Leicester’s disappointing season as “completely shameful.” They lost their recent match against Liverpool 1-0 and were relegated to the Championship.

In this match, Leicester City failed to score in their ninth consecutive home game, ultimately experiencing their second relegation in three seasons—with five weeks still remaining in the season.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, the Dutch manager who took over Leicester midway through the season, couldn’t save the team from relegation. At the end of the match, fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the team’s performance through protest whistles.

Vardy, who is the team captain and the club’s longest-serving current player, was part of Leicester’s Premier League glory days and played a key role in their historic 2016 title win. However, at 38, he couldn’t contribute much this season, scoring only 7 of the team’s 27 goals.

Vardy posted a message on social media platform X, addressing his 880,000 followers, expressing his frustration with the team’s situation: “Right now, I don’t even know what to say. No words can describe my anger and sadness about this season. No excuses are acceptable. As players and as a club, we collectively failed. There’s no way around it, and I won’t try to justify it. Having been at this club for so long, I’ve experienced great moments and successes, but this season has been nothing but misery and, for me personally, a complete embarrassment. It’s painful, and I know you feel the same. To the fans: I’m sorry. I’m sorry we didn’t perform well, and I’m sorry we ended the 2025 season with such a disgraceful display.”

This disastrous season could be Vardy’s last at Leicester City, as his contract, extended for 12 months last summer, is nearing its end. Meanwhile, Leicester’s future remains uncertain, with the club’s board facing severe criticism from fans for poor management this season.
