Javier Mascherano: We Will Repeat Barcelona-PSG Comeback!
Javier Mascherano, Inter Miami’s head coach, claimed that with the presence of former Barcelona stars, they can replicate the Blaugrana’s 6-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of the Concacaf Champions League semifinals.
According to reports, Inter Miami will host Vancouver Whitecaps early Thursday in the second leg of the Concacaf Champions League semifinals. Javier Mascherano’s squad, led by Lionel Messi, faces a tough challenge to advance to the final after a 2-0 defeat in the first leg.
However, Javier Mascherano expressed confidence that his team could defeat Vancouver, just as Barcelona did in their historic 6-1 comeback against PSG in the 2017 UEFA Champions League.
Mascherano said in a pre-match press conference: “I learned that night that nothing is impossible, and anything can happen in football. Literally, anything. So until the referee blows the final whistle, anything is possible.”
“As a coach, I can convey ideas, but I also have four teammates from that night—Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba—who lived through that dream with me. I think they can explain better than anyone else what happened.”
“In the qualifiers, especially tomorrow’s match, we still have a chance to advance. It depends on our belief in ourselves to overturn the result, and I trust these players.”
“I believe we can do it. I have faith in what we’re doing and what we’ve been training for. I’ve been with this team for four months now, and one or two losses won’t change my perspective.”
Tomorrow, Inter Miami will attempt to overturn their 2-0 first-leg deficit against Vancouver Whitecaps in the Concacaf Champions League semifinals.
The winner of the Inter Miami vs. Vancouver match will face the winner of the other semifinal between Mexican teams Tigres and Cruz Azul, which ended 1-1 in the first leg.
