Jorge Valdano:
Real Madrid Must Abandon Reason Against Arsenal!
Jorge Valdano, former Real Madrid star, believes a comeback for the team against Arsenal is possible.
According to “Varzesh3,” Camacho, who played for Real Madrid between 1973 and 1989, and Jorge Valdano, who wore the team’s jersey from 1984 to 1987, explained on the radio program “Radio Studio Noche” how the 0-3 defeat in the first leg against Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals could be overturned.
José Antonio Camacho said: “The Santiago Bernabéu is a stadium with something special. I’m sure the same will happen against Arsenal; the Bernabéu will weigh on them. English teams usually falter away from home.” He was one of Real Madrid’s heroes in the historic 6-1 victory over Anderlecht on December 12, 1984, in the European Cup round of 16, which came after a 0-3 defeat in Belgium.
Jorge Valdano admitted on “Onda Cero” that he did not believe in a comeback against Anderlecht at the time, but Camacho, disregarding the first leg from the first minute, began motivating the players for the match.
Valdano stated: “I remember him waking me up in the morning and asking, ‘What are you going to do tonight? How are you going to head the ball?’ We were a group of kids caught up in madness. Emotions have a very good memory, and those matches are unforgettable. The atmosphere back then was better than today because people stood and watched, and 120,000 gathered there to cheer. There was also an extraordinary level of confidence on the pitch.”
Regarding Real Madrid’s upcoming match against Arsenal, where Ancelotti’s team trails 3-0, Valdano emphasized: “Here, reason is completely set aside. This generation knows the path and the conditions that must be created. A moment of chaos arises that ignites passion in Real Madrid players and fear in the opponents, and this is just the beginning of creating conditions for unbelievable events to happen.”
