Ko Itakura’s Stunning Goal for Borussia Mönchengladbach Against Borussia Dortmund (Photos)
Borussia Mönchengladbach’s first goal against Borussia Dortmund was scored by Japanese defender Ko Itakura in the 24th minute with an explosive start.
The high-scoring and entertaining match between Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 30th week of the Bundesliga ended with a 3-2 victory for Nico Kovac’s team, keeping Dortmund’s hopes alive for a European qualification spot.
One of the highlights of the match was Borussia Mönchengladbach’s first goal, scored by their Japanese center-back Ko Itakura in the 24th minute, giving Gerardo Seoane’s team an early lead.
The scene where the Japanese defender took the ball from midfield, dribbled past Dortmund’s attacker with an explosive start, passed the ball to Kevin Stöger, immediately received it back, and sprinted towards Borussia Mönchengladbach’s goal to score past Gregor Kobel.
The goal was somewhat similar to last week’s goal by McGinn, Aston Villa’s captain against Paris Saint-Germain, where his explosive run and powerful left-footed shot resulted in the second goal for Unai Emery’s team against PSG.
This was the 28-year-old defender’s third goal of the current Bundesliga season, which could also be a candidate for the most beautiful goal of the season. However, Borussia Mönchengladbach ultimately lost the match, further diminishing their hopes for a European qualification spot.
They are currently in ninth place in the Bundesliga table with 44 points, five points behind fourth place, which could secure them a Champions League spot.
