    Kylian Mbappe's Punishment Date Announced

The French striker received a red card in the 37th minute of the Deportivo Alaves vs. Real Madrid match for a severe foul, raising concerns about a potential suspension of more than one game, especially with the Copa del Rey final approaching.

Kylian was sent off in Sunday’s match against Deportivo Alaves. In the 37th minute, he committed a harsh foul on Antonio Blanco’s shin in midfield, with no real chance of winning the ball. Referee Soto Grado initially showed a yellow card but changed his decision to a red after VAR intervention.

This red card left Real Madrid with 10 men. It was Mbappe’s first red card in La Liga and the fourth of his professional career; his last red card dates back to September 2018 with Paris Saint-Germain. Mbappe expressed regret for his actions at Mendizorrotza and apologized to his teammates and Blanco. Now, Real fans are worried about how many games their star will miss.

Soto Grado’s report stated: “A studs-up challenge to the opponent’s shin during a contest for the ball, using excessive force.”

Mbappe will miss at least one game and will be absent against Atletico. If the suspension extends to two games, he will also miss the match against Getafe, and if the disciplinary committee decides on a ban of more than three games, he will miss the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on April 26.

Given the referee’s report, the suspension is likely to be one game. The key detail is that Soto Grado wrote ‘during a contest for the ball,’ and although ‘excessive force’ was mentioned, Article 130.1 applies, which refers to violent conduct during play and carries a one-game ban. Without this detail, the suspension could have been two or three games.

The disciplinary committee will meet on Wednesday to make a final decision. On the same day, Real Madrid will find out what punishment awaits Kylian Mbappe and whether he can play in the Copa del Rey final in Seville.
