Awaiting a New Reaction from Flick?

La Liga Rejects Barcelona’s New Request

La Liga has no plans to change the schedule for Barcelona’s match against Real Valladolid, and the original timing will remain unchanged.

    La Liga Rejects Barcelona's Request

According to reports, yesterday Barcelona sent a letter to La Liga requesting a change in the kickoff time for their Week 34 match against Real Valladolid. The game is scheduled for Saturday, May 3, at 21:00, but due to their UEFA Champions League semifinal second leg against Inter Milan on Tuesday (21:00), Barcelona asked for the match to be rescheduled to 14:00, 16:15, or 18:30 on the same day.

However, La Liga has no intention of changing the match time, as Barcelona was aware of the schedule since April 7, when Week 34 fixtures were announced. Initially, the Valladolid-Barcelona match was set for Sunday, May 4, at 14:00, but it was moved to Saturday at 21:00 to accommodate the Champions League semifinals. This adjustment was made considering the possibility of Real Madrid also reaching the semifinals. At that time, Barcelona did not request any changes, even with the potential of advancing to the semifinals, which has now materialized.

Barcelona’s request for a time change came last week after qualifying for the semifinals and UEFA’s schedule announcement. However, according to La Liga’s policy, time-change requests are only reviewed during the initial scheduling phase. Barcelona did not anticipate this situation or inform La Liga earlier. As a result, La Liga immediately moved the match to Saturday after the semifinal fixtures were confirmed and will not make further changes despite Barcelona’s recent letter. This decision reflects La Liga’s adherence to initial planning and inflexibility toward late requests.

It is worth noting that recently Hans-Dieter Flick strongly criticized La Liga’s scheduling in a press conference, and the refusal to adjust the Valladolid match time may provoke another negative reaction from the German coach.
