Mundo Deportivo claims that Laporta repeatedly told his inner circle that he was tired of frequent trips to Germany. One of Barcelona’s group-stage opponents was Borussia Dortmund, and they had to travel to the German city, which Laporta said had little appeal beyond the Signal Iduna Park stadium—even the food didn’t suit his taste.

Strangely enough, in the quarter-finals, Barcelona had to face Dortmund again. Even worse, after eliminating Dortmund, there was a chance they would have to return to Germany if Bayern Munich advanced past Inter, as Barcelona would then face Bayern in the semi-finals.

However, Laporta, frustrated by repeated trips to Germany, had no desire to go to Munich either, as he envisioned the final being held at the Allianz Arena. His natural optimism led him to imagine the path to the final in advance. For this reason, he preferred Barcelona to travel to Milan for the semi-finals.

And if Inter was his ideal opponent in the semi-finals, there was only one team he wanted in his dream final: Real Madrid. The reason was clear—a victory over Real in the Champions League final could forever end the legend of Real Madrid having more titles, as Barcelona would defeat them on the biggest stage possible.
