Manchester United 0-1 Wolverhampton: Amorim's Team Wins Home and Away!

Manchester United hosted Wolverhampton in the 33rd round of the English Premier League today and lost 1-0. United, who managed a dramatic comeback against Lyon last weekend to advance to the Europa League semifinals, suffered another defeat at Old Trafford. Wolverhampton had beaten United 2-0 in the first leg earlier this season and today managed to defeat Rúben Amorim’s side without conceding. Interestingly, this was the first time Wolverhampton had secured two wins against United in a single season.

    Starting Lineups

Manchester United: Onana, Mazraoui, Lindelöf, Fredriksen, Amass, Ugarte, Eriksen, Dorgu, Garnacho, Mainoo, Højlund

Wolverhampton: Bentley, Gomes, Aït-Nouri, Bueno, Semedo, Neto, Gomes, Cunha, Sarabia

The first half ended goalless, with neither team producing an impressive display. Wolverhampton, despite early confidence in possession and organized passing in tight spaces, failed to create significant chances. United also had only two clear opportunities in the first half.

The match started cautiously. Wolverhampton entered the game in high spirits, with Matheus Cunha returning to the starting lineup after a long absence. United made five changes from their dramatic win against Lyon, with 20-year-old Fredriksen making his debut and 18-year-old Amass starting.

The first notable incident came in the 29th minute when tensions rose after a United corner. André, Wolverhampton’s midfielder, was booked for a rough challenge on Ugarte. This highlighted the intense midfield battle but did not lead to any clear chances.

In the 34th minute, United created their first real chance. Eriksen’s long-range free-kick forced Bentley into a sharp save, pushing the ball out for a corner. Bentley was repeatedly called into action during the first half.

Just before halftime, Garnacho set up Mainoo for a curling shot that narrowly missed the far post, leaving Bentley as a spectator.

The second half started with early bookings. In the 48th minute, Aït-Nouri was cautioned for a foul on Dorgu, while Dorgu himself was booked in the 56th minute for a rough tackle on Cunha.

Wolverhampton came close in the 58th minute when Larsen’s header from a corner deflected off Lindelöf and went wide. United responded with substitutions, bringing on Mason Mount, Diogo Dalot, and Bruno Fernandes.

In the 77th minute, substitute Pablo Sarabia broke the deadlock with a stunning free-kick from the edge of the box, curling the ball into the top corner past Onana. This was Sarabia’s third Premier League goal of the season.

Despite late pressure from United, Wolverhampton held on for a historic double over the Red Devils.
