Manchester United Fans Outraged: ‘Don’t Play These Two Players Anymore!’
Manchester United fans have demanded the complete removal of two players from the starting lineup after a crushing 4-1 defeat against Newcastle.
Manchester United, without their controversial goalkeeper Andre Onana who was left out of the squad, went into halftime against Newcastle with a 1-1 draw. However, in the second half, two goals from Harvey Barnes and one from Bruno Guimaraes inflicted a heavy defeat on the Red Devils—their 14th loss of the Premier League season, equaling their worst-ever record.
This disappointing result pushed United back to 14th place in the table, now on course for their worst-ever finish in Premier League history.
Many players underperformed in this match, but the performances of two players were so poor that fans have decided they should no longer play for the club.
Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof, whose contracts expire in the summer, both started at St. James’ Park. However, fans believe this should be their last appearance in the team.
One fan wrote on social media platform X: “Can we please stop playing Lindelof and Eriksen? They’re leaving on a free transfer at the end of the season. Play the youngsters instead.”
Another fan added: “Is it really surprising? How do you expect to be a physically strong team when Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof are in the starting lineup? Both are out of contract in the summer.”
Another fan wrote: “With Eriksen and Lindelof in the lineup, you can’t expect to win a Premier League game.”
Another user analyzed one of Harvey Barnes’ goals: “Barnes easily bypassed Lindelof and Eriksen—two players who have no place in Manchester United’s starting lineup and will leave in the summer. They have neither physical strength nor speed. He went past them so easily.”
Another user said: “This was another performance directly linked to Erik ten Hag’s choices. It’s an away game against Newcastle, and yet again he relies on players like Lindelof and Eriksen.”
Manchester United will now try to bounce back on Thursday against Lyon in the Europa League quarterfinal second leg. The first leg ended in a 2-2 draw, and this tournament remains United’s only chance to win silverware this season and return to European competitions next year.
