Manchester United Fans Protest Against Ratcliffe: What Have You Done to Our Club!
Manchester United fans protested during the match against Wolverhampton over the club’s decision to relocate long-standing supporters at Old Trafford.
Manchester United fans displayed large banners at Old Trafford, protesting against the controversial decision by Sir Jim Ratcliffe to forcibly relocate some of the club’s long-standing supporters.
The protests escalated after the club announced earlier this week that parts of the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand would be converted from general seating to premium hospitality areas. This decision means dozens of fans, some of whom have occupied those seats for decades, must now leave their beloved section.
What has angered many fans is not just the decision itself, but how it was communicated. Season ticket holders were informed via a brief message on Monday without any prior consultation or explanation.
This move has been seen as a betrayal by loyal fans who have supported the club for years. Protests weren’t limited to social media, as fans directly confronted new CEO Omar Berrada and technical director Jason Wilcox. However, the main target of criticism was Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the man now responsible for the club’s major decisions.
This decision is particularly bitter for elderly fans who have occupied these seats since season tickets were first introduced. These seats not only offered excellent views but also provided easy access for fans with mobility issues. Now, these positions are irreplaceable for many.
The situation becomes more complicated when considering that alongside these changes, the club has also announced price increases. Starting from the 2025-26 season, standard season ticket prices will rise by 5% (though this increase doesn’t apply to under-16s). Additionally, from next season, the attendance requirement for season ticket holders will increase from 15 to 16 out of 19 Premier League home matches.
Fans were also furious about Luke Shaw’s absence from the squad. Shaw, who according to Rúben Amorim was rested for this match, had previously struggled with multiple injuries in 2025. Fans took to social media to protest this decision, arguing that Shaw, despite returning to training, should have played in this crucial match, especially given the team’s defensive instability.
These protests come as United has faced significant defensive issues this season, with Shaw being a key player who could make a difference. Some fans called Amorim’s decision unacceptable and criticized the repeated pattern of Shaw’s injuries and his management, while others believe this rest might be necessary to preserve his fitness for upcoming critical matches.
