According to reports, Andre Onana, Manchester United’s first-choice goalkeeper, is considering potential options to join Saudi clubs if the club’s management decides to part ways with him in the upcoming summer. This news was published by the reputable English outlet The Athletic on Tuesday.

The report states that Manchester United’s new management, led by principal investor Jim Ratcliffe, aims to save over £26.3 million by selling Onana’s contract—an amount that would otherwise be paid in installments after his purchase from Inter Milan.

Onana joined Manchester United from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023 for a transfer fee estimated at around £46 million. He has since played in 94 matches for United, conceding 139 goals and keeping 23 clean sheets.

However, his recent performances have faced criticism. Ruben Amorim, Manchester United’s Portuguese manager, dropped him from the starting lineup in the 4-1 defeat against Newcastle. This decision was attributed to Onana’s glaring mistakes in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-final against Lyon.

Amorim stated in a post-match press conference that he had not yet decided on the starting goalkeeper for the second leg against Lyon (scheduled for next Thursday) and would make the final decision based on conditions and performance.

Despite this, Onana previously helped Manchester United win the FA Cup in May 2024, defeating their arch-rivals Manchester City in the final.
