    Marco Materazzi’s Nightmare: Inter’s Failure, Milan’s Double

Marco Materazzi, former Inter defender, says his biggest nightmare is that Milan wins two trophies this season while Inter ends up empty-handed.

    Marco Materazzi's Nightmare: Inter's Failure, Milan's Double

According to reports, Marco Materazzi, the Inter legend and a key figure in their 2010 treble-winning team, now dreams of repeating that success this season as a fan. However, as the season nears its end, he fears a bitter outcome for his beloved team.

Inter is still competing on three fronts: leading Serie A (three points ahead of second-placed Napoli), facing Barcelona in the Champions League semifinals (just like 15 years ago), and also meeting Milan in the Coppa Italia semifinals. Yet, there remains a possibility that Inter could end the season without a single trophy—a scenario that has become the former Inter No. 23’s worst nightmare.

Materazzi told Viva El Fútbol: “This year, there’s a risk that Milan wins two trophies (Coppa Italia after the Super Cup) without truly deserving them, while Inter wins nothing. That’s my biggest nightmare.”

Praising Inter’s performance against Bayern Munich, Materazzi said: “Against Bayern, San Siro and the team created a unified spirit. Lautaro sparked early, Inter’s hunger was evident even in the second goal, and Inzaghi’s celebration confirmed it. This team believes and turns results around when needed, as we saw in Monaco.”

On Davide Frattesi’s crucial goal: “A 1-1 draw in the first leg could have knocked any team out, but Carlos Augusto passed to Frattesi, who sprinted into the box at 300 mph and scored! This shows the team bounces back even after conceding.”

Materazzi also commented on the final minutes: “Inter struggled a bit with Bayern’s tall, high-quality, and fast players during late aerial balls. But Inter showed they should enjoy this journey. We, as Inter fans—and I think many Italians—hope they can win all trophies.”

Criticizing Milan’s management decisions: “A new owner came and sidelined Paolo Maldini, the club’s No. 1. At Inter, a new owner arrived—maybe he doesn’t know football—but kept Marotta and Ausilio. The results speak for themselves.”

Praising Inter’s current management: “What can you say about this management team? Marotta, Ausilio, Baccin… They’re building something important.”

On the upcoming Barcelona clash: “Inter has followed a clear path. Before the game, I said I feared Bayern Munich more than Barcelona.”
