Napoli moved to the top of Serie A with a win over Torino, thanks to Scott McTominay’s brilliance, and now sit three points clear of Inter Milan with four matchdays remaining in the season. The title race took a dramatic turn in just eight days; last week, Napoli drew with Inter, and now, following Inter’s 1-0 loss to Roma on Sunday afternoon, Antonio Conte’s side had the chance to extend their lead—and they succeeded.

    Lineups:

Napoli: Meret, Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Buongiorno, Olivera, Lobotka, Anguissa, McTominay, Politano, Lukaku, Spinazzola

Torino: Milinkovic-Savic, Masina, Marijan, Kock, Birighi, Casadei, Ricci, Linetty, Pedersen, Elmas, Adams

David Neres and Juan Jesus were absent due to injuries, and Giacomo Raspadori was sidelined with flu symptoms. However, Alessandro Buongiorno returned from injury to start against his former club.

Torino had lost only twice in their last 16 matches, but this time, Guido Guinti was suspended, while Borna Sosa, Aly Njie, Duvan Zapata, and Per Schuurs were unavailable due to injuries. Elif Elmas made an emotional return to the Diego Maradona Stadium, while Samuele Ricci suffered an injury during warm-up and was replaced by Adrian Tamèze.

The game started with a Napoli goal in the 7th minute—for the third consecutive match, Scott McTominay broke the deadlock. He got past Saúl Kock in the six-yard box and converted Zambo Anguissa’s low cross from the right.

In the 7th minute, Anguissa found space on the right side of the box and delivered a cross, where McTominay was waiting to slot the ball into the net.

Torino had a chance to equalize later, but Ricci’s shot went wide, allowing Napoli to maintain their lead.

The game continued with Napoli leading 1-0 until McTominay struck again. The second goal was similar to the first—this time, Matteo Politano delivered a cross from the right, and McTominay rose above Torino’s defenders to head home in the 41st minute.

    McTominay's second goal
The second goal mirrored the first, with Politano crossing from the right and McTominay again finding the net in the 41st minute.

In the 58th minute of the second half, Zambo Anguissa felt discomfort in his ribs after a collision with a Torino player and had to leave the pitch. Philip Billing was unlucky not to score a third goal when his header hit the post in the 60th minute.

Napoli’s problems continued as Alessandro Buongiorno suffered a muscle injury while running and signaled to the bench that he needed to be substituted. He was replaced by Rafa Marin in the 64th minute.

Unlike the first half, the second half saw no goals or serious chances, allowing Napoli to secure a 2-0 victory. Conte’s side now leads with 74 points, while Inter sits three points behind in second place.
