The Future of ‘The Special One’ According to Joe Cole
Mourinho in Love with London and Will Return to England
Joe Cole says José Mourinho will leave Fenerbahçe this summer and return to the Premier League because he is in love with London.
According to reports, Fenerbahçe made one of the biggest transfers in Turkish football history last summer by appointing José Mourinho as their head coach, with one demand: end Galatasaray’s dominance in Turkish football, ‘The Special One.’ However, with the season nearing its end, it is clear that Mourinho has failed to meet this expectation.
Fenerbahçe currently trails Galatasaray by five points, and the title seems out of reach for Mourinho. Turkish and Portuguese media have claimed in recent days that Mourinho has made a final decision and will leave Fenerbahçe this summer. Meanwhile, the club’s president recently stated that they have no intention of ending their collaboration with the manager.
In recent days, there have been numerous rumors about Mourinho’s next destination, with claims that he could return to Tottenham Hotspur and replace Ange Postecoglou. Joe Cole, in an interview with TNT Sports, confirmed these speculations, saying Mourinho will almost certainly join a London-based club.
He said: “Mourinho, who I consider a genius. I would love to see him back in the Premier League. José is still a top-class manager. From what I know of Mourinho, I am certain he loves England, especially London. I believe as soon as he is free from Turkey, he will return to England and take charge of a London club. Any team lucky enough to have him on their bench will make significant progress next season. When you hire José, you must give him time—no matter how bad your situation is, he will win you trophies within three or four years. I promise you that.”
Given Joe Cole’s final remarks, it appears he is referring to Tottenham Hotspur—a London club long mocked by rivals for its trophy drought.
