The situation for Niko Kovač at Borussia Dortmund has taken a strange turn.

New Trouble for Dortmund: English Suitor for Kovač!

According to “Varzesh3,” the management of Borussia Dortmund may not have expected such a change. Just a few weeks ago, it was Kovač who had to fight to keep his job, but now Dortmund must fight to retain him!

The newspaper Bild has revealed that several Premier League clubs are interested in hiring the Croatian coach. It is even reported that one prominent English club has specifically inquired about signing him.

The key point here: The Premier League has always been Kovač’s professional dream. Before taking charge of Dortmund on February 2, 2025, he knew he had a good reputation in the English football market and other major European leagues, making him a potential candidate for managing one of these teams by next summer. Now, this interest has become very serious.

According to Bild, Tottenham Hotspur has specifically monitored Kovač and even inquired about him from Dortmund. Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham’s current manager, is under severe pressure due to poor results this season.

Tottenham is currently in 16th place in the Premier League, and their only notable performance has been in the Europa League, where they reached the semi-finals against Bodø/Glimt. Sources close to the club believe the Australian manager’s dismissal in the summer is highly likely.

Tottenham’s leadership believes Kovač’s energetic, passionate, and attacking style could align well with English football. However, no official action has been taken yet.

But in this short time, Kovač has brought a significant transformation to Dortmund. In initial negotiations, he insisted on a minimum one-and-a-half-year contract until the summer of 2026, especially because the Club World Cup in the USA (from June 14 to July 13) could complicate starting with a new team. Dortmund’s management, who were looking for a temporary solution after dismissing Nuri Şahin, included a clause in Kovač’s contract stating that if cooperation is terminated, two-thirds of his remaining salary (over €2.5 million) would be paid to him.

But now, the discussion of termination is off the table. On the contrary, the club’s executives, including Watzke, Lars Ricken, and Sebastian Kehl, are highly satisfied with Kovač’s performance and plan to continue working with him. Kovač has managed to revive the struggling team, earning 10 points in the last four league matches and now sits just four points away from a Champions League qualification spot.
