André Onana celebrated Manuel Ugarte’s goal by taunting Lyon fans.
Manchester United scored the first goal in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals against Lyon, taking a 3-2 aggregate lead. The first leg ended 2-2, where André Onana had a poor performance and was at fault for both goals.
Before the match, Onana had a verbal altercation with Nemanja Matić, Lyon’s current and former United star, which led to Lyon fans chanting against him. This prompted Onana to seek revenge in the return leg!
Early in the game, Manuel Ugarte opened the scoring for Lyon, and after the goal, Onana made a gesture that angered Lyon fans. He celebrated by turning towards the French fans and laughing! They responded by booing and whistling at the goalkeeper.
Some United fans on social media also criticized Onana’s actions. One user wrote: “Imagine if he had talent, what else he would do!” Another said: “Why does he add more pressure on himself when the game is calm?” A fan commented: “He is responsible for the recent criticism. He shouldn’t create tension.” Another supporter added: “He shouldn’t do this. He needs peace right now, and these actions don’t help him.”
