Playmakers Win Ballon d’Or, Not Just Fancy Players
Pedri: Rodri Deserves the Ballon d’Or, I Will Win It Too!
Pedri, in an interview with UEFA, praised his compatriot Rodri and acknowledged his worthiness for the Ballon d’Or, while also expressing his own dream of winning the prestigious award.
According to reports, Pedri has been the center of attention these days. The exceptional performance of Barcelona’s midfielder has led many experts to consider him the key to the team’s success this season.
Pedri, in his interview with UEFA, stated that he is aware of his improved performance and dreams of winning the Ballon d’Or one day. He said: “Since Rodri won the Ballon d’Or, it has been proven that midfielders can also win it. Midfielders who dictate the pace of the game, not just technical and fancy players. I was very happy for Rodri because I truly enjoy playing alongside him in the Spanish national team. Rodri is a player who controls the entire game and masters regaining possession and scoring goals.”
When asked if he sees himself winning the Ballon d’Or in the coming years, Pedri replied: “Winning the Ballon d’Or has always been my dream. But now, as we approach the end of the season, all our focus is on the remaining matches. We have two more trophies to win—La Liga and the Champions League. Let’s win these trophies first and then see what happens with individual awards.”
When asked about his football idols, Pedri answered: “When I was a kid, I watched a lot of football. I was obsessed with Xavi and Iniesta. I was heavily influenced by them. I tried to imitate them and behave like them in training. Of course, reaching their level is very difficult, but I strive to improve every day to one day reach their level.”
