Porto’s Tough Task to Sign Al-Hilal Star
FC Porto is trying to sign Ruben Neves, the Portuguese star of Al-Hilal.
According to reports, FC Porto is exploring the possibility of signing Ruben Neves, the midfielder of Al-Hilal, in the upcoming summer transfer window. Portuguese newspaper A Bola published this news on Tuesday.
The report states that Porto officials have described Neves’ return to his former club as a “dream,” but they admit that a permanent transfer is very difficult unless it is a loan deal or if his contract with Al-Hilal is terminated.
Porto’s management, led by president André Villas-Boas, is evaluating all possible options to bring back the Portuguese midfielder. However, if the only way to sign Neves is on loan, the club will not be able to cover his full annual salary, as his wages at Al-Hilal are very high.
Porto hopes to convince Neves to return by offering him a key role in the dressing room and a special place in the team’s structure, potentially making him one of the club’s legends.
Ruben Neves’ contract with Al-Hilal runs until June 2026. He joined Al-Hilal last summer for €55 million from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Since joining Al-Hilal, Neves has played in 77 matches, scoring 8 goals and providing 20 assists. Previously, he made 253 appearances for Wolves, scoring 30 goals and assisting 13. During his time at Porto, he played 93 matches, scoring 4 goals and assisting 3.
